In a review of their recent activities delegates to Chelmsford TUC were pleased with the attendance at their Workers’ Memorial and May Day events. They were, however, following the general election, deeply concerned at the prospect of another round of attacks against trade unionism, social and welfare services, and continuing privatisation. Indeed, in their reports, several delegates spoke about their unfortunate experiences in local government, education, arts funding, health and housing.
The meeting agreed to invite guest speakers to talk about issues concerning housing, pensions and the current strike at the National Art Gallery. Delegates will be encouraging colleagues to attend the demonstration against austerity in London on 20 June. Some delegates will also be attending the garden party which is organised by Chelmsford Amnesty International on 6 June at Friends Meeting house.
