Chelmsford TUC

AGM 2014

Established in 1899 Chelmsford TUC held its AGM on 5 February. The guest speaker was Lindsay Ruigrok from Thompsons Solicitors, who gave a very interesting talk on the recent changes to Employment Tribunals.

During the evening delegates voiced their backing for the TSSA/RMT London underground strike and condemned the Mayor of London for refusing to meet the trade unions and avert the strike. It was noted that the Mayor had been elected on his promise not to close ticket offices. They also reported on the campaign to promote Dignity Day on 22 February which had been organised by the National Pensioners’ Convention in support of its Dignity Code.

Delegates approved the Annual Report which featured a vast number of activities in which local trade unionists had participated. It was noted that some delegates will be participating in the Fairtrade Quiz evening on 26 February at St. Andrew’s Church Hall at 7pm and the People’s Assembly meetings in London on 11 February and 15 March. Plans were discussed for the May Day Rally and Workers’ Memorial Day and a number of exhibitions are planned for 2014. The following were elected to Office: President Colin Rolfe, Chair Hazel Corby, Secretary Andrew Coburn, Treasurer Chris Habib.
